Old Robeson County Jail
On December 21 2006 C.P.R.S. conducted a full investigation of the Old Robeson County jail located on water st in Lumberton NC. The jail was closed and a new one was built around 1992 to replace it. The newest part of the jail was finished in the 1950's. There seem to be 3 parts of the jail each one being older than the next. The boiler room appears to be the oldest and was probably the first brick jail on the current site. In 1895 a wooden structure was located someone near the current location and was burned by an inmate that didnt make it out in time to escape the flames.
On the friday before the investigation the founder and another member conducted a pre-investigation of the jail alone with 2 county employees. Our purpose was to tour and map out the area and look for any possible hazards or concerns that may effect the team. Pictures and audio where taken in different areas of the two story building. Later the audio revealed a evp in a stairway and was backed by a picture of an orb at the same time. A lot of banging and sounds of furniture being moved can be heard on the audio but both members dont recall hearing anything at the time.
On the night of the investigation all C.P.R.S. members were present. A captain from the jail was nice enough to show us around and give us some insight into where the activity would occur and shared with us some of his own experiences from when he was working there. There is no power to the building since it hasnt been used in over 15 yrs. The jail like many others was overcrowded and the conditions were not the best since the place is small and confined. The were several deaths at the jail in the last few years of the jail's history and probably more that occured many years ago that have been forgotten.
The group was split into 3 teams to cover as much of the jail as possible. All of the usual equipment was used by each team. On the first floor near the stairs I set up a video camera near the stairs for about 15 mins. Several orbs in motion can be seen going by the camera. My team was in one of the cells and all 3 members heard a male voice say "BOO" alone with a ''Bang'' on something metallic. Stephanie and Elsa thought it was me and I said that it was not. We then thought it might be another member close by to us. I called Kenny on the radio to get his location and he confirmed that he and his team was outside. The other team was located on the second floor at the time.
All members of the group reported feeling like they were being watched or followed. Members would often get Orb pics and several evp's. 2 members Angie and Jessica saw an Orb with their own eyes in an room on the 2nd floor go into a wall. Jessica also later reported seeing a dark shadow of a man near the same area. Video tape shows several orbs in motion near members. Video also showed that a bright orb was following Elsa as she turns a corner walking toward me. The evp's showed both male and female voices present. We are suprised to find more female voices than male. There wasnt anything in the evp's that seemed to be negative. In fact one female voice was caught several times appearing to be very friendly. Another female voice was caught on video saying "Welcome to my house".
All members of the group strongly feel that the jail is indeed very active with paranormal activity. All members had some type of experience while there. Three members heard a voice and two other members witnessed seeing a orb. All of this activity occurring within a 2 hour period around 7 to 9 pm. All of the evidence collected along with the feelings of being watched and followed seem to point to definate activity at this location that can not be explained by normal meanings.
We at Carolina Paranormal Research Society wish to thank everyone that made this investigation possible, especially the employees of the County that assisted us. Thanks to all of the team members for their professionalism and dedcation. We are excited and hope to return to do a follow up investigation at the jail very soon.
